Considering the quantity of services and merchandise proffered, is there any correspondence between branding and actual benefits rendered?

“Screw out the bolts of your life, examine and work on yourself, fix your life again and get going.” – Israelmore Ayivor

McLaughin Bros

Single location
Dual purpose
Since 1880

Bright winter sunshine bounces off a historic architectural facade in downtown Sedalia. Functioning side by side for over a hundred years, the McLaughlin family owned and operated a combined furniture store and funeral home. In the nineteenth century, the makers of furniture often also pursued casket-making.

“I feel there’s a lot of emphasis these days placed on explaining everything in such a fashion that there’s really nothing left for the listener or reader to explore themselves.” – Aaron Turner

Sen Sen

Throat ease
Breath perfume
Confection sucrerie

Created in the late 19th century by Thomas Byrne Dunn, Sen-Sen was the first commercial breath-freshener marketed in the United States. Available in small pouches or cardboard boxes, it’s secret blend of licorice and ‘rare herbs’ would allegedly mask mouth odors resulting from food, drink or smoke.

“It does not sneak around with subtle sweetness and pepperminty little puffs. When one Sen-Sen hits your tongue and begins to dissolve, your breath takes on the authority of tear gas.” – Bill Stokes

Replete Memorabilia

Right off the kitchen
Association worthy
Stir recollection

As night falls, walking in a snow-covered mountain hamlet is a delight. The calmness and surface albedo accentual artificial light-pattern distributions across scattered buildings.

“What do you do with what you’re given, and how do you transform it into something worthwhile?” – Donald Fagen

Three Bear Lodge

Yellowstone exploration

Winter adventure

In creating a complete sense of the event, room accommodations and associated accouterments contribute to comprehensive expedition enjoyment.

“The hotel is literally right outside of the West Entrance to Yellowstone, you could actually walk to the entrance!” – Iluvboaz

Buckaroo Bill’s

Location orientation
Covered wagon dining
Middle of West Yellowstone

Addressing issues such as the perception and representation of space and place, expired license plates used as a decorative element embellishing a crude hand-paint park map serve as identification markers setting an environmental style.

“If two different authors use the words ‘red’, ‘hard’, or ‘disappointed’, no one doubts that they mean approximately the same thing . . . But in the case of words such as ‘place’ or ‘space’, whose relationship with psychological experience is less direct, there exists a far-reaching uncertainty of interpretation.” – Albert Einstein

Garden of Eden

Gas station
Paradise of pleasure
Creation narrative

Equipped with rock formations, live plants, and a flowing waterfall, a roadside fast-food atrium is also the Garden of Eden. Paradise is complete with the tree of life featuring a serpent alarmingly perched in the branches above the dining tables. Under no circumstances should you follow the advice of the trickster snake.

“If you’re on the road and passing through Eden, Idaho make sure to stop at Travelers’ Oasis Truck Plaza.” – Dan Willie

Furniture building
Make your own terms
That speak of the past

An ephemeral sign on the exterior wall of an old building slowly succumbs to the vicissitudes of time.

“I think people should appreciate some of these buildings a little more. Not just because they are old and they have history but because they are built better and include much more personal details.” – Matt Spencer

Union Pacific

Freight hauling
Overland route
Rail road

Civilization’s remnant structures retain hints and echoes of an industrial heritage. Early transcontinental transportation hubs still define the local ambiance of some western venues. Part of the incentive was to establish unique remote locations appearing desirable as travel destinations.

“Boys did not go to work on the railroad simply because their fathers did. What fetched them were sights and sounds of moving trains, and above all the whistle of a locomotive. I’ve heard of the call of the wild, the call of the law, the call of the church. There is also the call of the railroad.” – Gary Krist

Film Fossils

Sweat rocks
Jewelry beads
Open curios

Here are things tendered that you didn’t know you needed, but might not be able to obtain elsewhere. Odd businesses emerge in tourist venues, largely defined in terms of capitalist modes of production and consumption.

“This civilization is the impact of the world’s consumption behavior.” – Toba Beta
